Meet Mimi Phillips

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Phillips.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in Los Angeles. A troubled youth subjected to urban poverty, Growing up, I felt directionless, but I knew I wanted more out of my life. Although I experienced countless trials and tribulations over the years, I was determined to persevere through my adversities.

I got focused and decided to go back to school to further my education. A few years later I went on to become a Metro bus operator, but becoming my own boss is what my heart was set on. I dreamed of owning a food business right here in Los Angeles where I could be a motivating force, provide employment and give back to the community that raised me.

Entrepreneurship is something that I always desire. In 2017, I stepped out in faith and opened Phat Daddy’s Burgers. It is one of my biggest accomplishments today.

I wouldn’t be where I am today without having confidence, trusting my instincts, and following my gut. I dedicate my success to believing in myself, keeping my faith in God, and being an inspiration to others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When you’re in pursuit of greatness, there will always be bumps in the road. There are good days there are bad days. Wins and losses. You just have to dust yourself off and keep it pushing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Professional Bus driver and owner/operator of phatdaddys burgers. We specialize in making down-home, hand-patted burgers and fresh-cut fries. I’m most proud of the success of my business going into our seventh year serving our community breaking barriers that I thought couldn’t be broken. What sets me apart is that wholeheartedly love what I do. I know what rules to break and what rules to follow, and I’m not afraid to do it.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love about my city is that they show up and show out. We support each other and show love. To me, that’s what it’s all about. I love it here, and I’m proud to be from Los Angeles.
