Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassidy Carballo.
Hi Cassidy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Like many other small businesses, our journey began as a result of the covid lockdown. We started upcycling reusable cotton masks from fabric around the house. Our mask business was a success and acclimated me to using the sewing machine. From there, I unleashed my creativity. I made simple reworks while experimenting to find my style. I fell in love with creating fresh new designs from discarded clothing and solving the problem of excessive clothing waste. The passion I have for making the world a better place has driven me throughout this journey.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a small business owner is one of the most fulfilling careers, but it certainly does not come easy. I’ve wanted to quit more times than I can count. However, the tribulations make the success taste so sweet. The biggest struggle I have faced is ironically my own mind. You can sabotage yourself quickly in the wrong mind state. You can convince yourself you’re unworthy, untalented, uninspiring… the list goes on. Your thoughts have immense power over your reality, and what you believe to be true will manifest its way into your life. I didn’t truly believe I could be someone great until very recently. My childhood and young adult years consisted of me being an outcast, a weirdo, annoying… and I never had a talent or anything to offer. But once I reclaimed my power back everything changed. The things I hated most about myself became my greatest asset. I learned to embrace my originality and built an entire successful brand from it. Your differences and uniqueness are what make you stand out from the crowd. Be original.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a sustainable fashion designer who creates a new design every time from 100% secondhand fabrics. Each piece I make is one of a kind, never to be made again. They tell their own unique story. My specialty is style without sacrificing comfort. I am proud to be proving that fashion design can be sustainable and I am providing hope for the future of fashion. I stand out from others in the ways I innovate new designs and concepts. My originality shines through.
How do you think about luck?
I hit the lottery with my partner. I found the yin to my yang who balances me out so perfectly. Not only do we work well together in our relationship, but also in our business endeavors. I mean it when I say I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without him. The partnership we have is so rare and not to be taken for granted.
