Today we’d like to introduce you to Belva Chan.
Hi Belva, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I believe my situation is a little different than most people, I never thought I would have went for photography before I stumbled across it. I studied a degree for Image Design and Photography, thinking I would be a couture designer, but one thing led to the other, I started assisting on set, and that’s how I started my journey in photography.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
After graduating, I decided to stay in the industry as it was such an exciting work environment. However road hasn’t always been smooth for me, there were lots of ups and downs. It was difficult to get booked as a photographer assistant as a girl, especially when I was starting out and didn’t know much yet. I would often work as a stylist assistant on set as well. After years of not giving up and hard work, I was able to started getting booked for a photographer assistant and photography jobs. I am still assisting today and excited to learn more about the photography world.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer based in Los Angeles, specialised in fashion and commercial photography. I am a very laid-back person, I enjoy working in a relaxed and welcoming environment, so most of my sets are very efficient yet chill.
How do you define success?
Happiness. Being able to live a happy life worth more than anything else.
