Meet LA’s Accomplished Floral Artist Adonna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adonna Ebrahimi.

Hi Adonna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
You know, I remember doodling in 8th grade and loving a required art class in 10th grade. I realized I could draw! Coming from a blue-collar family, getting a college education was not really drilled into my head, and frankly, I wasn’t the academic type anyway. In my junior year of high school, students were presented with the option of attending vocational/technical school for half a day for two years. Commercial Art was on the list…..and I was like, Hello! Where do I sign?? It was the perfect fit for me. I attended one full year after graduation from high school and went directly into a full-time job with a small ad agency in Northern Kentucky.

I married and moved to New Jersey, and worked for an agency for seven years. A new baby and my husband’s job change brought us to California. I stayed home and raised a family in Thousand Oaks, CA. A divorce brought me back into the world of art – home to myself. I have found so much joy and healing in producing art, and hope that my work reflects that.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Pursuing a creative life is a journey unique to each of us. Along the way, we try to hone into our own style, always a work in progress. Just when I think I’ve chosen my medium…..along comes an artist whose work I admire, and I try something else. Self-motivation and doubt are always there, knocking on my door. Some days it’s easy to kick them to the curb. Other days, not so much. Keeping up with the latest on social media is also daunting. I look forward to the day when I can pay someone to market my work and my main focus is just creating!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Most of my work is floral. Flowers have always made me happy! Gloves were rarely worn when planting in my yard – I love the feel of soil on my hands! After taking a few online courses and exploring mixed media, I decided to try working without a paintbrush. Of course, this is really nothing new, but it was new for me. Most of my art is created with my fingers into the paint……and onto the canvas. I truly love swishing and moving the paint around the canvas. I use bubble wrap, shelf-liner, feathers, palette knife, forks……kinda anything goes. Before each painting, you will generally find me “smudging” the space with sage and essential oil on my tabletop.

It is my hope that the energy and joy I feel while creating, has been communicated onto the canvas – through color, shape, and motion. Each piece has a little bit of me in there and a story.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
It is my goal that my work finds its way into home decor, corporate art, art licensing and bringing joy into the home of my collectors. My latest offering is what I call a “Keepsake Painting” A custom painting of a bride’s bouquet.

Pricing:

  • Keepsake Painting $900-$1500
