Daily Inspiration: Meet Sahfilli Matturi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sahfilli Matturi.

Sahfilli, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It was the middle of the pandemic and I had been surfing the entire time during lockdown and I noticed how the mental health of my peers was being affected. I was actually having a great time with non-existent traffic and empty waves which is rare in California and I thought I should share my love for the ocean and give people an outlet. So I planned on making it effortless without any barriers and wanted everything to be free to the public. So I gave my first lesson to my cousin and her friends from Csulb and it took off from there.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a struggle but it wasn’t easy, luckily I had made valuable relationships over the years surfing and I had a few great people to help me get started.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’ve always had a love for music and I am a multi-instrumentalist, I graduated from LA Film school with a degree in audio engineering. I pursued a music career and interned and worked at various studios in the Hollywood area. But the ocean has always been there when I needed to disconnect and escape, I could never be too far from her.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the food and the melting pot of culture but I dislike the traffic and the air quality.
