Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Miranda.
Hi Ashleigh, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Yes, My name is Ashleigh Miranda and I am the founder and principal interior designer at AYM Interiors. At a young age, I knew I wanted to help people create environments that they loved. It all started in my hometown, Huntington Park, Ca. Although Huntington Park is not the worst city as far as crime goes in Los Angeles, it is also not the best–and I inherently knew as a child that I was not in a safe neighborhood. However, no matter how unsafe I felt outside of my home, inside my home felt like a sanctuary and my refuge. Although we did not have a ton of money for “extras” growing up, my mother would go to thrift stores and garage sales to find artwork and small knick-knacks that made our home “ours”. Because of this, I felt a sense of pride in where I lived, and really learned about the power of leveraging your environment to become a better version of yourself. You may not be where you want to be, but treating every day as a gift by surrounding yourself with what you love has such a way of putting your mind at ease and puts you in better alignment of getting where you want to go.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Some of the struggles along the way have been breaking past learned behaviors that are meant to keep you small. Learning to dream big, and feeling safe enough to be vulnerable with myself to want what I want, unapologetically. I think when you grow up working-class, you learn how to be an employee rather than an employer, and being okay with not pleasing everyone in order to feel worthy of a paycheck has been a big adjustment!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart from others in my industry is that Interior Design is so much more than creating beautiful spaces for people, I love to be a coach to my clients in guiding them back to what it is that they authentically like. We become so far removed from our authentic core, because of the opinions of others, articles that tell us what we should and shouldn’t like, social media, etc. What we like can feel unfamiliar to us. It doesn’t matter what my client’s preferences are, my job is to make anything–no matter what it is– look pulled together and cohesive.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I offer free 30-minute discovery calls to anyone that is considering an interior designer, to see if it’s a fit, and worth pursuing further! I am also very responsive on Instagram @ayminteriors.
