Conversations with Young Ross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Young Ross.

Hi Young, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began rapping while working at FedEx, got introduced to the music app FruityLoops and began producing beats on my own. The first beat I made was for a song I would go on to call “Super Bowl”, because I was watching the LA Rams, and I got inspired and wanted to make a song. So I wrote lyrics and approached my cousin that had a studio and asked if I could record it, and when it was complete and everyone heard it, the reaction I received, I just knew this is what I wanted to do. I met a producer named Cal, that recognized my talent and urged me to pursue my passion, and I’ve been going full throttle with my music ever since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Marketing the music has been difficult. Having people initially support and change their minds about my potential is frustrating, but I find comfort in the grind. Every time I view my Apple/Spotify stream numbers I know that I am making an impact, and I find solace in that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a hip hop artist. I write my own lyrics and produce the beats to my music. I believe my versatility distinguishes me from other rappers, as I have multiple cadences and a distinctive voice that resonates with listeners everywhere. I am most proud of my entry into Rolling Loud’s Next Man Up performance slot. Earning a spot in such a prestigious festival really means a lot because it’s yet another reminder that I am doing all the right things.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love what LA has to offer. The weather, the beautiful women, the culture is all amazing. There’s a lot of competition in LA among other artists, but with a lot of us coming from the same communities, it’s easy to collaborate with music because we’re all trying to achieve success.

I dislike the crime, the gangbanging and violence. The cost of living is too high. The mistreatment of police on black and brown individuals is a problem that’s leaving my community in a constant state of anxiety.
