Meet Lydia Floyd of Hands4Hope LA in North Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Floyd.

Lydia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am Founder and Executive Director of Hands4Hope LA. Our mission is to help single parents and their children. My mother was a single mother with 4 children and Epilepsy. We have been fulfilling our mission for 17 years.

Has it been a smooth road?
Running a nonprofit is no easy feat. Funds are always low. We cannot afford the staff we need. I am very grateful for the donors and volunteers who have helped us survive for the past 17 years.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hands4Hope LA – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Hands4Hope LA is more than an after-school program. We serve single parents by providing for their kids every day after school and resources for them when we can.

Over the holidays through one of our donors, we were able to take 11 single parents on a shopping spree to Target to buy things they needed and Christmas presents for their kids. Our most recent success was getting one of our parents a brand new refrigerator filled with healthy food.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am from New York but can no longer tolerate the weather there. Here, it is always beautiful and there is always plenty of things to do in Southern California.
