Meet Omolara Abode

Today we’d like to introduce you to Omolara Abode.

Hi Omolara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Lagos, Nigeria and came to the States as a young child. Growing up in central California, I’ve always been interested in film and video and took the plunge going to film school at UCLA. After freelancing for many years, I found my calling in both video art and education. Today, I am a public school math teacher by day, and by night, a video DJ and digital media artist.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ll just say that time management is everything. It’s pretty hard to balance being responsible for 140+ students, a band, a Twitch livestream, a monthly nightclub party, along with the occasional theatrical performance or live music show. But I do manage to pull it off, by taking it one day at a time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in live visuals for streaming, music events, art galleries and theatrical productions. I’m particularly proud of my work for Lyrics From Lockdown, which is a one man show featuring a three-piece band and my visuals. We’ve done performances for various academic conferences, The Actors’ Gang, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. As for what sets me apart from others, I think I have an extensive video library with an eye for the Afro-Psychedelic.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I am nothing without my extensive support system. This includes my family, my friends, and my many collaborators. Shout out to all of you, and thanks for the support!
