Meet Jimmy McGill of Glitterati Tours in Hollywood and Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jimmy McGill.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jimmy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
As a Los Angeles native, I’ve always been fascinated with this city. Every chance I got as a kid, I snapped as many photos with my Cannon Sure Shot that included the word “Hollywood.” Now, forty-plus years later, I still find myself looking down at every star on the walk of fame as I run errands, dine, have a cocktail, etc. along Hollywood Boulevard. It’s my goal, as well as our amazing guides, to take the negative myths out of Los Angeles, and showcase the city and the surrounding areas as a great place to live, work, and visit. The myths include that everyone is fake and plastic, there’s tons of crime, it’s dirty and smoggy, and there’s traffic. Yes, traffic can be a nightmare.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There really are no bumps in the road for what we do in tourism. The majority of our guests come to us happy and excited for their excursions. We lay out every possible answer that a guest may have, both on our website, and through concierges and travel agents. This way, there’s no mystery, and no lost expectations. This even includes our prices, since we’re a luxury service. We actually turn down a lot of business, by explaining to guests that much can be self-guided in our city, and we always avoid tours during rush-hour and major events. No one should pay hourly rates for sightseeing while sitting in gridlock.

Glitterati Tours – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Glitterati Tours specializes in customizing private tours of Los Angeles, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the local beach communities of Santa Monica, Venice and Malibu.

Our guides are professionals at nailing a guest’s bucket list of sightseeing venues, whether our visitors are 5 years old or 100. We are proud to be a tight-knit team that constantly researches our city for the latest in real estate (celebrity homes), restaurants, museums, things-to-do, bars, and all-things-L.A. We go over and above to make sure our guests get what is promised.

While we are a luxury service, we also want guests to feel like they’re traveling with friends, and it shows in our reviews on sites like TripAdvisor. Want us in a suit or tuxedo? Never….it’s not who we are. We try to have an answer for everything. If we don’t, we never make it up. We realize that guests have the world at their fingertips with cell-phones and iPads, and it’s crucial that someone who is being paid to provide a service in touring, doesn’t lose credibility with falsehoods. We also accompany our talking points with a multi-media iPad presentation with 1000’s of photos that include our city’s past (then and now), aerials and interiors of celebrity homes, crime scenes and filming locations. We provide free Wi-Fi, chilled waters, and a fantastic snack basket.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
We often take our city for granted. We are reminded daily about our international and domestic guests that have grown up on our pop-culture. We get to re-live Los Angeles every time someone sees the Hollywood sign for the first time, or a palm tree, or a coastline, etc. It gives us goosebumps to live vicariously through someone else’s excitement in the Hollywood allure, and it humbles each and every one of the guides.
