Today we’d like to introduce you to Tierra Jones.
Hi Tierra, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It’s been a 10-year journey for me so far. I started training with Lisina Stoneburner at The Company Acting Studio in Atlanta. I also studied at Rob Mello Studio (Meisner) and Drama, Inc. I’ve also studied with awarding winning filmmaker Patricia Chica and her groundbreaking method of Chi Energy called “The CHIca Method” Training allowed me to master my craft in front and behind the camera. I started acting in theater and independent films in Atlanta. I also volunteered behind the camera to learn more about filmmaking.
What inspired me to pursue a career in film was Quentin Tarantino “Pulp Fiction”. The first film I wrote, acted in and produced screened at the Big Picture Film Festival. One of my most memorable experiences was working on Selma and meeting Oprah Winfrey. Funny story how I meet Oprah and shared a dressing room with her. The head hairdresser for all the principal actors decided to do my hair herself and took me into the trailer where all the stars of the film were getting their hair done. Next thing I know, she moved me one seat over and Oprah sat right next to me. Pretty surreal! What I love about acting is that it’s my passion and the outlet I express myself. I love connecting and creating with my scene partners. I enjoy playing mysterious, unique and strong characters. I apply the CHIca Method when I’m preparing for a role to find my character’s energy. It just adds more layers to my performance and dimensions to my character. It resonates across the screen to audiences.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. As many actors of the diversity, I’ve also struggled getting into the industry. I’ve been underrepresented on and off the screen. I am currently looking for representation. On one occasion, I had to quit a job once, because my manager would not let me have the day off when I booked a short film. The thing that has helped me in this journey is mediation. I’ve meditated on God’s promises and positive affirmation. Deraj Global has an excellent guided meditation channel on clubhouse.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, I’m most proud of that I’m versatile artist; I can act, write and produce. Besides acting and producing a few short films, I’ve also worked for a popular entertainment magazine as a journalist which makes me a published writer. Acting is my primary focus though. I’m now setting foot in the L.A. market, and I look forward to collaborating with even more filmmakers here…
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I do see more diversity in the industry. Having more diversity in Film/TV will reflect on people seeing themselves and their voices and stories being told.
