Community Highlights: Meet Gevorg Zakaryan of Gev’s Kitchen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gevorg Zakaryan.

Hi Gevorg, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always loved cooking and it was my dream to become a cook. It takes only one person to believe in you to take the risk. In my case, that person was my wife. Due to her support, I started creating my own recipes and decided to sell all my homemade food from our garage. Sounds crazy, right? But it felt so good to start something that was my own. After 5 years of hard work, me and my wife decided to take the business on another level. She designed the kitchen and the venue, I found cooks and tried to add more stuff in menu. Eventually, we opened our own restaurant. Honestly, words cannot explain our happiness!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, it was not easy! We had some financial difficulties at first, we were very scared and hesitant to open up a business in LA, as competition in the field is big, we have 2 kids and we were also thinking being able to manage our time wisely to spend more time with them but at the same time run the business on a high level. It was also a big issue for us to find a perfect venue for our restaurant. That part maybe took the longest time, honestly.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Gev’s Kitchen offers traditional Armenian-Georgian food for its customers. We are mostly known for our delicious Khinkali and Pelemeni. Our unique recipe and style set us apart from other restaurants who specialize in the same field. We are proud to represent Armenian and Georgian cuisine in LA and give a chance to everyone here to taste various foods of the mentioned culture. Apart from selling our own food in the restaurant, we also offer catering services and more than happy to make your special day even more delicious!

What matters most to you?
Quality! I worked so hard to create new recipes that don’t ruin high quality of the food. That’s the main thing that matters for me as a cook.
