Community Highlights: Meet Lisa Ollivier of Simply Beautiful Skin Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Ollivier.

Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I worked in the corporate world most of my adult life, so over 20 years. From working in Human Resources to Customer Service and being a Customer Service Supervisor. I honestly was just not fulfilled and happy in my career.

At the age of 45 years old, I decided to completely change my career! I’ve always been drawn to the beauty industry. I had a facial at Glen Ivy Hot Springs in 2015 and the light bulb went off inside me! This is it! This is what I want to do! I want to be an Esthetician and help people make changes in their skin while also providing a relaxing and nurturing safe place.

It took me about a year to finally start esthetics school. In April of 2017, four months after starting school, I graduated and was a licensed Esthetician. I had been in contact with HR at Glen Ivy and told the gal there to remember my name because I would be sending in a resume once I was licensed. I did just that! Glen Ivy was my first esthetic job and I was hired just for the busy season of 2017. After my five months at Glen Ivy, I left to go work at the 5-star Burke Williams Day Spa in Mission Viejo. I worked there for a year and a half. I then went back to Glen Ivy for their 2019 season.

While doing all of that, I started Simply Beautiful Skin Boutique in February of 2018. My plan was to work at a spa for 2 years and learn all the ins and out of running a spa. All of 2018 and most of 2019, I worked part-time building my clientele while working part-time at those spas. I jumped full-time into my business in November 2019. We all know what happened just months later.

My journey was not easy and was not without struggles and hardships. I started my business with $3,000. I rented a small room inside the Phenix salon suites in the beginning where rent was $250 a week and my first week was great! However, week 2, week 3, week 4, I barely had any clients. I had spent $600 in marketing. I wasn’t bringing in enough to pay my rent to Phenix so I had to pay it out of my personal bank account. That then lead to me not being able to pay my home mortgage and we went into pre-foreclosure. I felt such extreme guilt, thinking what am I doing to my family. I am a fighter though and do not give up on something I believe in. I knew I had something special to give. I could have just closed my doors and walked away. I searched and searched for another location for my business with more reasonable rent. I found a location and built my business there for a year and a half. Then, I was growing and becoming very popular in Corona. It was time to continue growing!

On 3/2/2020, I opened my beautiful shabby chic storefront skincare studio! Simply Beautiful Skin Boutique had a brand new home! Then… COVID! Two weeks after opening, I was forced to shut down! I did what we all had to do during that time…PIVOT! I brought in a lot of retail items from skincare, body oils, scrubs, cute baseball caps and beanies, tote bags, etc. I provided virtual consultations and shipped skincare kits and stayed active on social media and in my email marketing. I continued to be an esthetician and friend to my clients even though we couldn’t offer in-studio treatments.

Here we are today, 2023, Simply Beautiful Skin Boutique will be celebrating 5 years in business! I have been featured in the Inland Empire Magazine’s Best of the Best for the last four years. Working for the lifestyle, I promised myself!

I am a mom to a special needs 20 years old. My son has four disabilities: Down Syndrome.
