Today we’d like to introduce you to Shin.
Hi ππππ, thanks for joining us today. Weβd love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been drawing all my life and majored in art-related studies for both undergraduate & graduate schools. I was always thinking about doing tattoos, but it was not easy to set foot in the tattoo industry. So I put a plan into action 4 years ago and that was the best decision of my life.
Alright, so letβs dig a little deeper into the story β has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges youβve had to overcome?
No, it was not smooth at all. My formal education in art did help me to do tattoos, but it was more than just changing mediums. When I create a tattoo, luckily it is my design concept but also the clientβs idea, so it is multiple challenges contributing to its creation. Rather, my desire to be perfect is personally my biggest obstacle.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My favorite artistic medium is pen and paper. I like sophisticated line drawing and I really enjoy applying that technique the tattoos I create. Tattoos are art drawn on the body, not on paper, but 3D Modeling, which was my major in graduate school, was very helpful.
My art is stylish, unique, and detailed. Interpreting that look into my tattooing style is my strength and the reason my clients love my designs and become my regulars.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The most notable thing is that the subject matter is so diverse. People’s perception of tattoos is constantly changing, and not only in American culture but cultures all over the world where it once could have been a forbidden taboo. Another notable thing is that people are realizing when they give a tattoo artist some creative freedom, they are no longer just simply receiving tattoos, but they are wearing an artist’s custom artwork on their body forever.
