Meet Eloi El

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eloi El. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Born Eloi Muhoranimana, the pop/electronic producer was born and raised in the Rwandan capital of Kigali as part of a musical family lead by El’s father, a renowned guitar player who worked across genres including rumba and Afro-Jazz. Together with his siblings, El tinkered in the family’s small recording studio and by age 13 was performing live — playing guitar and singing in the Rwandan language of Ikinyarwanda.

He dropped his debut song, the darkly bumping “Frozen,” via Latvian label Day Doses of House in 2020 and, after hustling to get 25 of his tracks released via an array of worldwide imprints, soon became the most streamed Spotify artist in Rwanda.

Then, in 2021, destiny stepped in when an A&R from Kygo’s Palm Tree Records, a joint venture with Sony Music Entertainment got in touch, asking if El had unreleased music. He sent it over a few tracks and a week later was signed to the label founded by his idol.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road to be honest since EDM genres have not yet caught on in Rwanda.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Eloi is specialized in deep house music which is a sub-genre of Electronic Dance Music. Eloi is known as the most streamed dance artist in Rwanda. Kygo inspired Eloi so much from the very beginning of his career and becoming the one to support his music is unreal and unbelievable!

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Eloi’s dream is to push the boundaries of Electronic Dance Music in Rwanda by doing shows and touring the whole world.
