Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanity Alexander.
Hi Vanity, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been in love with fashion since the age of four. As per my parents, while shopping one day, they allowed me to choose my own outfit. I chose a silver sequined dress with white tulle, a silver embellished headband, matching stockings, and silver ballerina flats to match. At the age of 11, I designed my first handbag, and from there, my adoration for fashion continued to grow. I’ve always had a creative eye and a keen sense of style, which often put me in the role of stylist for my family and friends. Years later, while working in corporate America, I began to feel unfulfilled. I can recall praying to God and asking him to reveal my purpose to me. What he revealed was fashion design; from there, Vanity Alexander the brand was created.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road has not been easy. However, that’s to be expected as a first-time entrepreneur. If you’re lucky, you’ll have financial backing and some sort of blueprint when you begin your entrepreneurial endeavors. Like most of us, I started my business as the sole investor. Additionally, I didn’t have an advisor or mentor to properly guide me, so inevitably I made mistakes along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Vanity Alexander is a luxury lifestyle brand that specializes in women’s ready-to-wear and home décor. We intend to bridge the gap between the everyday retail shopper who desires high-end products and traditional luxury brands. We plan to achieve this by creating attainable products that have been uniquely designed with premium fabrics and ingredients. We are excited to share with Voyage readers and supporters that our new RTW clothing and product lines will be released in 2023.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe true happiness and fulfillment can only be attained through taking risks. I wouldn’t consider myself to be a gambler in the traditional sense, but I will always bet on myself. With this mindset, betting on myself will always produce a favorable outcome, as things will either turn out the way I intended them to or will produce a lesson that I can learn from.
