Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Perin.
Hi Gina, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2010 I was engaged to be married after a painful divorce, raising kids and soon-to-be stepchildren. We were making big plans and splitting time between our homes in PA and NJ (I am from the Northeast). We were the fitness couple and life was great, I thought I had everything planned out. I was so self-absorbed in my own life I made little time to notice other people’s lives around me. This was about to change. On Christmas morning my dad and I found my brother David in his home deceased. He had committed suicide. In that moment I had no idea just how much this would impact the rest of my life. David’s death set off a chain of events in my life that otherwise would not have happened. Within six months my engagement ended.
In less than four years I moved across the country to L.A. leaving everyone and anything I had ever known. My health, both mental and physical, declined with depression and anxiety. One day I had enough and walked back into a gym. I regained my physical health, found a therapist and a mentor and went to work finding happiness again. I was a fitness coach for Equinox when the pandemic hit. How could I keep serving others to stay healthy, both physically and mentally?? After meeting with my mentor, Patricia, I went back to school and launched my online health and wellness coaching business. Now I serve both men and women from all over, helping them focus on their health and happiness. Helping people deal with the challenges and losses in life in a way that allows them to thrive despite what they are going through.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Absolutely not! After my brother’s death, I gave up on my physical health. I stopped exercising and began overeating and over-drinking to cope. Instead of addressing my own mental needs to deal with his death, I put that aside to care for my parents and my kids and just get through each day with what had to get done. I didn’t talk to anyone about how I was feeling or really take the time to grieve his death. I felt alone and depressed. There were so many losses in a relatively short time, divorce, death, engagement ending, moving across the country, etc… I had to hit a bottom where I no longer recognized myself to ask for help. I was the super happy, fitness women who had lost her way. I didn’t even recognize myself in the mirror.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I founded GGLifestyle in 2021. It is an online health&wellness coaching business. I coach professionals from all over to help them prioritize their wellness. As a trained certified positive psychology-based health and well-being coach specializing in people over 40, but I coach all ages! As a busy professional it is easy to put your health and well-being on the back burner. As a physical, mental and spiritual Lifestyle Coach, I am drawn to helping others achieve their fitness goals. I have found along the way there is so much more to “fitness” than just the physical. There is mental and spiritual fitness as well.
I believe with active planning, we can create our best life. That planning looks different at every life phase. That’s why my life’s work is now inspiring people over 40 and guiding them to their most fulfilling lives.
What sets me apart from others, I would say not only my 20+ years in health and wellness but my personal life experiences give me first-hand knowledge of the challenges we face through divorce, death, job loss and more. I can honestly tell my clients that I understand what they are going through and help them stay on track of their well-being.
