Meet Alexandra Mack of Mink Brow in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandra Mack.

Hi Alexandra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my microblading business just last year but I’ve always been involved with art, beauty, makeup and skincare. In 2020, I became a licensed esthetician and in 2021 I took my first microblading course. I immediately fell in love with the technique because it combines my passion for art with my experience working on clients and making people feel beautiful. Since starting my company, Mink Brow, I’ve seen a lot of growth as an artist and a business owner. I grew up with a lot of creative role models and family members and ever since I was a child I knew I wanted to start my own business. I’ve spent a lot of time learning about branding, marketing and consumer psychology which I think has helped me find a niche in the industry and market myself to potential clients. The work I do is very natural, my goal is to give people fuller-looking brows that they feel comfortable in and can enjoy with or without wearing makeup.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This past year has felt very smooth but it took me a long time to get there. I think the most difficult thing was just taking the leap and deciding to get started. I tend to overthink and it took me a long time to decide on one thing I wanted to focus on. During that time there were periods where I felt lost and unsure about what I was doing. I was working another job and focused on building my portfolio in my free time. A few months later I started getting busy and decided to quit my job to do microblading full-time. I was a little nervous but the transition felt natural. The timing doesn’t always feel 100% right but it helps to just make the decision, get started and apply yourself on whatever your vision is.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do permanent makeup, specifically microblading. I do very natural-looking work that blends in with my client’s natural brow growth if they have any. A lot of my clients are people who wouldn’t typically be interested in permanent makeup and some don’t even know what it is. I’d say it’s my approach to permanent makeup that sets me apart. I don’t want to do anything that looks too bold or makes my clients feel uncomfortable. I have a very light hand and build up to a fuller-looking brow over multiple sessions. This approach lets me work with clients who are nervous about having it done or might not otherwise consider microblading.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the creativity that this city has. There’s a lot of competition no matter what industry you’re in and I think that pushes people to create such amazing things and think out of the box.

My least favorite thing is the notorious, never-ending traffic.
