Exploring Life & Business with Stephen Ferrer of Movement Society

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephen Ferrer.

Hi Stephen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins right after college where most graduates are; a place where we don’t know what to do or where to go. I decided to pursue a career in the sports performance and training industry. I soon found myself at Equinox Glendale, where I quickly grew my business and started to succeed as a personal trainer.

I always had this gut feeling that I needed to do more than just work for a corporate company. In 2019, a group of 3 other trainers and myself decided to start a company where we would be able to provide more options to clients to better themselves. This company would grow and become Movement Society.

Fast forwarding to today, Movement Society is a fitness company and facility in the heart of the up and coming Arts District of Downtown LA. Together with my partners, we have created a community of performers, dancers, artists, and everyday people who want to improve their craft as movers and human performers.

The birth of Movement Society was a long time coming that took a lot of hours of dreaming and planning to create a home for myself and other trainers. We opened our doors in June of 2022 and already found ourselves working with large companies such as Reebok, Fabletics, and many other companies.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Creating our business at one point seems to only have obstacles and challenges. From the dissolution of partnerships to the creation of new partnerships, small little construction hiccups, and to putting out small little fires on the daily.

If you find yourself on a smooth road, be weary and aware of your surroundings because if you are on the road to success there will be bumps or else it might result in you not improving and moving forward.

Always continue to challenge yourself because it pushes you forward and better.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Movement Society is a fitness facility located in the Arts District, DTLA.

We are a 3000 sq/ft private training facility for the athletes and many others connected to the performing arts.

Movement Society is a company that specializes in training Dancers, Performers, and Artists. We have bridged the gap between strength and conditioning to the creatives. We quickly found that performers in the entertainment industry are getting injured because they are putting their bodies through demands comparable to professional athletes.

Professional Athletes and teams have a staff of trainers and physical therapists. If these performers are putting their bodies through great demand, then why aren’t they treating themselves as such.

This is where Movement Society has fit into the picture. Our facility has on staff; Trainers, Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists, and Chiropractors all with experience dealing with artist athletes of all levels.

Even if you find yourself not an artist, you will benefit from the same protocols because we train all our clients as athletes… the inner athlete in all.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Even though I was not born in Los Angeles, I am raised as an Angeleno. I moved to Los Angeles from the Philippines when I was only seven years old. I took in all the culture that LA has to offer and carried it with me wherever I go.

The biggest reason that I opened my business in LA is because of the people. The life in the city is starting to grow again, the pride in the city is growing again, and the beauty of Los Angeles is starting to bloom.

I want to be a part of the flourishing of Los Angeles and show the world who we are. From our food to our art and through the melting pot of ethnicities. I think the best part of Los Angeles is you can be whoever you want to be in this city, and you will be celebrated because of the individuality that you bring.
