Daily Inspiration: Meet Arianna Flores-Moya

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianna Flores-Moya.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hey Art Lovers! My name is Arianna Flores-Moya, and I am a self-taught Surrealista and the owner of Evokeaholic. I paint my life journey through the unfiltered and distorted lens of Surrealism. I have always loved to create the unknown or yet-to-be-seen. Throughout my childhood, I’ve found comfort in creative expression. Whether through theatre, music, or visual arts. I remember taking my middle school art classes so seriously. I wanted to get every work of art to perfection. I have always taken great pride in my artwork but little did I know I would own an art business one day.

In elementary school, I created a colored pencil drawing of me painting in my art studio. I guess I’ve been a powerful manifester from the beginning. I started my artistic journey in middle school through the performing arts. I continued doing theatre through college and graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Attending a liberal arts college gave me the opportunity and flexibility to explore all art mediums in a safe learning environment.

After I graduated college, I was in a place of uncertainty. What would I do for the rest of my life? The overwhelming question everyone asks you as soon as you cross the stage to get your diploma. Art was constant in my life. Evokeaholic Art Shop launched in 2020 at the height of the pandemic because I thought there was no better time to start the life of my dreams. I unleashed a new part of myself that would guide me to become the independent, creative, and driven Latina woman I always dreamed of becoming. I am grateful to be living my dream of creating art and serving as a resource for all art lovers to follow their dreams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth journey, but legacies take time. Life is not linear, but that is what makes it so beautiful. When you have a big vision for your life, you cannot expect to have it all right at that moment. Otherwise, what is the point? The biggest struggle I’ve run into is believing in myself despite the results in front of me. I’ve had a lot of blessings come my way from the beginning of this entrepreneurial journey, including this interview. As an artist, you are putting your soul on display for the world to see. It can be hard to put yourself out there in such a vulnerable way. You are exposing your energy, experiences, struggles, and triumphs through each brush stroke.

I am learning to overcome this by being patient with myself and where I am on my journey. It is all a part of the plot. Without all the twists and turns, I would have no truth to create. I have become very protective of my solitude, energy, and time. Through the art of meditation and journaling, I have gotten to know myself on a deeper level. All these discoveries have transformed me and my artistic expression. I am healing through my art.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a multi-passionate at heart, I love many mediums: drawing, painting, sculpture, and textiles. I desire to live through my individuality while simultaneously creating a safe space for others to do the same. My main form of expression is through the lens of Surrealism. The unexpected is expected in Surrealism. I find great comfort in knowing that anything goes. I am a self-taught acrylic painter. I have been painting professionally for three years and am amazed at my technical and spiritual growth. Throughout my artwork, you can see reoccurring motifs such as chains, portals, hearts, and eyeballs. The eyeballs symbolize the window to my soul. In every painting, you are getting to know me; and connecting with me through shared experiences.

I am most proud of my ability to push through moments of self-doubt and struggle. There have been many moments when I say, “I could just quit.” But then my follow-up question is always, “well, then what?” In those moments of self-doubt on your journey, ask yourself that question. If you cannot think of another answer, it is a good sign you are on the right path. Keep showing up for yourself; you will never regret it.

My voice in my art is what sets me apart. I am unapologetically me. I intend to use the power of my artistic voice to spotlight hope and renewal through adversity. I hope my art charges you with the same energy it gives me.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality for being an artist and entrepreneur is passion. Without passion for your dreams, there would be no drive to bring them to fruition. Nurturing my passion and keeping it at the forefront has allowed me to be adaptable and push through the hard times. Being passionate about my work grounds me and reminds me why this form of expression is significant. Passion is an energy of possibility, focus, and heart.
