Today we’d like to introduce you to Aly Williams.
Hi Aly, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve been teaching English for over ten years, but what I LOVE to do is help American actors sound natural when they have to perform a realistic British Accent for their productions! My first client contacted me about dialect coaching sessions in order to be able to mimic Amy Winehouse’s voice, and my career developed more into dialect coaching! I love to be of assistance to American actors to finally be able to steal British actors’ jobs instead of the other way around!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s not been particularly bumpy nor smooth. It’s been a road full of off-ramps to other ideas and projects that initially, I had no clue I’d ever be part of. Pleasant little surprises along the way!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m mostly known for my English videos on YouTube which cover comprehensive grammar/vocabulary /pronunciation lessons primarily for ESL students, but it’s now opened up more into the realm of dialect coaching too. You’d probably have seen my Cockney accent tutorials as Jason Statham or showing how to do a convincing Game of Thrones accent in my videos.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Helping someone achieve their goal is my focus. I see everyone as a puzzle to be solved and remember that what worked with one client isn’t necessarily likely to work with the next. This keeps me on my toes and keeps me from getting stagnant, which is the killer of creatives!
