Today we’d like to introduce you to La Kaliente.
Hi La Kaliente, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started doing music 11 years ago. I began recording in a closet from now recording in high-quality studios. I have a project out now called “Blue $trips”, named after my brand, available on all major platforms. I also have a music video for my single “Waves” on the “Blue $trips” project out now on YouTube. I’ll be releasing my new single “Coming” with a music video very soon as well, so stay tuned for that! Nothing is easy but with dedication, you can definitely see growth and progress. My passion started with music and has now grown into entrepreneurship. I started my brand, “Blue $trips” a few years ago & named it after the blue hundred dollar bill. My past wasn’t always pretty, so Proceeds of the profits will go toward domestic violence victims. Blue $trips began as a clothing line & has grown into producing, directing and curating fashion shows. @BlueStrips.la has joined forces with @Kariwood_ & @dutchcreativespace / @Under_groundla to present a series of “FASHION AFTERDARK” showcases in downtown Los Angeles. We had a show 10.26.2022 with 5 designers. The next show after that was FASHION AFTERDARK “Face & Body” theme 11.22.2022, this show had seven designers. Our next show is 12.20.2022 and the theme for this show is “Accessorize”! This show will have 5-7 designers as well, so stay tuned!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has never been a smooth road! Things have been rough along the way. Things have gotten very frustrating and dark. I’ve lost many “so called” friends & even some family members. When you have a vision, not everyone can fit into that vision or even see the vision your grinding so hard for. I’ve been judged, put down, turned away, rejected and gossiped about. With God all things are possible and those who stand against me can not prosper. I have strong faith in my higher power and my spiritual growth and journey is incredibly important to me. My peace and sanity is now more important to me than anything. I used to care so much what people thought of me until I realized that I can’t control that. I can only control myself and what I do and think. So I choose me. It’s a cold world so when you find those ppl that make your life easier and help you flourish organically toward the ultimate goal, then you know those are the people you keep with you. My advice is to listen to your gut. Potential is a wicked game. When people show you who they are believe them!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Blue $trips is an all-inclusive brand. I want to make sure that my consumers know I am pro-choice. I created Blue $trips originally for merchandise. The website www.bluestripsla.com is up and running. The signature for the Blue $trips brand is velour/velvet/suede blended with a different fabric to make a collaborative piece. I started with the velour & ribbon campaign and now Blue $trips has grown into having the denim & velour campaign & the casual unisex adult/children campaign, with T-shirts & bucket hats. I’m currently working on a crushed velvet and ribbon campaign, a couple of the products from that campaign are the open pocket shorts and the sweatpants joggers. I’m very excited to announce that I’m also moving into creating a Blue $trips high fashion line. I began this high fashion idea with two looks that I collaborated with Alaina on, the owner of Temple Cartell, @templecartelll. I presented these looks in the last “FASHION AFTERDARK” showcase 10.26.2022. Both looks were powder blue Patin leather, one look had literal blue strips cut out from the Patin leather fabric & made into a crop top dress, which I wore. While the other was a blend of a velour Bando top with a powder blue Patin leather skirt, which Alaina wore. I plan on continuing my high fashion looks and taking them to runway as well.
