Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucy Liu.
Hi Lucy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I always had two limiting beliefs in life.
One being even though I hold a diploma from a well-known university, UCLA, I always felt my English isn’t good enough because I wasn’t born American.
The other limiting belief was having my name as Lucy Liu, someone is already so famous by that name so I will always be nobody. She is also extremly talented and I love her so dearly, but at the same time I don’t want to self-sabotage.
In the end, I decided to shatter both of these together and launched my podcast calling it The Lucy Liu Show. What used to be my biggest hindrance became my greatest asset and I use my story and speaking voice now to inspire others to shatter their own self-imposed glass ceilings.
I’ve learned that I am unique and even if I only help uplevel the life of one listener, I have done my contribution to a better world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles were real. In order to release my limiting belief, I decided to launch my own podcast. But once I made this decision, fear snuggled up to me tightly.
What if people think I’m not qualified to have a podcast?
What if people think I was riding off the success of her name?
What if people judge me or believe I think I’m better than others?
What if I have zero listeners?
What if I get bad reviews?
The list went on and on forever. Then I remembered what I’d been preaching and blasting all over on the dozen guest podcast interviews I’d joined: I need to reframe this situation. There is always a way, and I have the power to opposite these negatives into positives.
What if people actually relate to my stories?
What if my listeners can’t wait to tune in every week to my latest episode?
What if I get messages from listeners about how helpful I was to their lives?
The more I thought about the possibilities, the more determined I was to make these my reality.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I take pride in owning my identity now and I love helping coach other women transition into their next dream persona. Very often we overthink or even spend more time thinking about how we are overthinking. So I call out my client’s overthinking thoughts and help expedite their embodiment of their new identity. For example that new identity is most often an elite business owner, podcaster, speaker or author.
What matters most to you?
My daughter will always be my #1.
I do what I do so that I can show her what being confident, resilient and joyful means. I want to teach her that she deserves to live an epic life and no one but herself is the designer of that beautiful life. Our life journey will always be decked out with pain, risks, laughter, and joy. Enjoy every season.
