Life & Work with Kevin Williams

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Williams.

Hi Kevin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2015, I was working for a company as a Maintenance and Handy Man for a Preschool Company that serviced Low Income communities. I began to make Chicken Wings for events and parties at my home. It started to become requested often enough to where I visually saw myself making money and life off making a great product for people who appreciate good food. I did farmer’s markets, festivals, local events, and anything that would let me set up and sell. I did events inside church parking lots, I did events in the middle of streets, concerts, inside community park kitchens at little league and softball tournaments, and much more. All to sell my great product to people who could appreciate good food.

I was newly embracing fatherhood and expecting my second child. I was working for an employer that didn’t respect me and couldn’t pay me what I thought I deserved… and I left. I left a place I felt was safe and would expected. And when I left, I was looking at a road that was unsafe and unexpected, but it just felt… Right! I was walking into a space of high-risk failure, financial jeopardy, more sleepless nights and added stress. I was smiling, crying, and shaking as I approached that cliff of entrepreneurship. I spoke to God, and God said…”Jump”.

I worked tirelessly, struggling to make rent, betting the house on events out of the state. I’d travel to an entire out of state city to serve good food to people I’ve never met just to give them a sample of what I knew was already the best. Some wins and Some Losses, but I loved the energy and the passion of seeing customers fall in love with my food. I was 4 years in, jumping in and out of trucks for festivals, and I kept getting asked where’s our storefront location. This inspired me to dream bigger. I wanted a Store Front Now!

2019 we opened! If I can express the amount of stress I went through, I would win an Academy Award. If you aren’t prepared for an absurd level of stress, anxiety, and unplanned hurdles then being an entrepreneur of a restaurant is something you should strongly reconsider this career choice. We struggled to make a presence in 2019, one mile away from three competing major franchises, and then The Pandemic happened. We were rocked! Every dollar I invested was at stake. I didn’t know what to do, but shutting down was not an option. I couldn’t just sit there and not do anything, like nothing and just wait. I needed to provide for my children. I needed to provide. Simple as that!

Flash forward to today. I’m still grinding, still stressed, still working for my dream and career. But… I’m blessed to be able to “Still” be doing it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely a challenging road. More parts of my composure and character have been tested. From the economic hardships to the Rising Costs of supplies, it’s definitely been something of a challenge.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and Creator of The WingMan’s Wings. We specialize in Serving the best Fried Traditional Wings, Strips, and Chicken Sandwiches. We don’t conform to the stereotypical Nashville-style chicken sandwich, rather have created an original creation in which is overall Satisfaction for any heat or savory enthusiast.

Wingmans Wings Started in my backyard as a hobby to make for parties and quickly grew into a City Favorite In Temecula, CA. We truly come from Grass Roots, our poultry is Halal selected, and we make all of our orders fresh from scratch. Other than whats previously stated, more thing that separates us from other places is the quality we put into our craft. Making sure everything tastes up to par, looks as described before it leaves the kitchen.

We tend to Trend for different things every week, but currently, it’s the Chicken Sandwich. Anyone who knows anything about the way an authentic Chicken Sandy is supposed to taste should give us a try. You’ll be back.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m from humble beginnings and every single detail about the store and the brand has been my creation. Inspiration from the business casual logo to the double entendre names used for sauces and flavors. The specific counts on quantities of items in an order (7) is all a framework of my intended purpose for the reflection of this business.
