Thanks for sharing your story with us Gary. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Third Eye Records opened October of 2002 in Costa Mesa. The goal was to share our love of tangible music and vinyl at a time when digital downloads were the newest trend.
We were quickly embraced by generations both new and old. We relocated to Long Beach in 2011 and can be found on 4th street’s historic “Retro Row”. Third Eye also was one of the few places to host all-ages shows supporting local bands and still do to this day. Come check out one of the most eclectic shops in Long Beach and experience why Third Eye Records has been “opening minds since 2002!”
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with any retail store, trends and economy play a role in what drives consumers. Luckily for us, the world of music has been kind. Whether it be on compact disc, cassette or good old vinyl, people will always seek out physical music. The greatest challenge is keeping up with what’s popular and establishing relationships that enable us to turn them on to lesser known artists that will hopefully open the door to a new genre.

Third Eye specializes in used, import and collectible vinyl records. We also carry unique gifts and memorabilia. We are best known for our fair pricing and eclectic selection. We are honored to be one of the many independently owned shops in Long Beach.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is as simple as delivering honest pricing, paying fair prices for used records and ensuring our customers know how valuable they are each time they step through the door.
