Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole McIntyre. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Although formally founded in 2012, Nicole M. Tutoring was really born when Nicole was in middle school. Nicole has always had a knack for mathematics and analytical thinking. Even if she didn’t fully understand the concepts at the time, she was always able to discover and follow the pattern, allowing her to excel on exams. She skipped a year of math in middle school, and her teachers often asked her to help other children in the class with the material. That is when Nicole discovered how rewarding it was to share her knowledge with others and fell in love with teaching.
Nicole continued to informally tutor her peers throughout high school. She even expanded her skills and taught swim lessons over the summers. Today, she takes great pride and satisfaction in her ability to take in complex concepts and distill them down to their core to share with others.
By the time she graduated from UCLA in 2012, she had worked for various local tutoring companies, but felt that she could better serve her clients with her own company. Nicole had also seen the quality of instruction vary by a huge degree from tutor to tutor, and Nicole wanted Nicole M. Tutoring to be powered by deep subject-matter experience, high instructional quality, and excellent customer service. Being self-employed gives her the flexibility to do what is best for the client without having to adhere to a specific curriculum or method of instruction. Nicole works with every student a bit differently and believes that every student is unique and that education is not a one-size-fits-all matter.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, I have been very fortunate with Nicole M. Tutoring. It was the hardest in the beginning. I started the business without a budget, so I had to cut corners wherever I could. I basically did every task that is required to run the business, while also charging a discounted rate just to build my business and referral network.
I learned to wear many hats – customer service representative, administrative professional, marketing representative, content creator, and more! Being self-employed has taught me to be resilient, flexible, and persistent.
That said, the hard times have always been outweighed by the satisfaction of helping others. My students make it all worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of Nicole M. Tutoring. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The services I provide are unique because I am really more of an Educational Manager than a Tutor at this point in my career. I am a one-stop shop for everything educational. Because of my years and years of experience, I can help with the day-to-day skills of homework help, organization, and academic planning, but also the big-picture tasks, such as college applications and SAT/ACT prep. I have a wide variety of skills, subject matter expertise, and experience, which allows me to serve my clients in a way that other companies struggle to.
I have vast experience working with students with ADHD, anxiety, and depression, which, unfortunately, seems to be getting more and more common. I treat every student as an individual and work with every student differently, depending on their needs. I offer a money-back guarantee for all of my work. I only want happy clients!
What does success mean to you?
As a Bruin, I adhere to John Wooden’s definition of success: “Success is peace of mind that is the direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming.”
I tell all of my students that I will be proud of them, despite their grades, as long as they do their best. I believe viewing success as such leads to better mental health and wellness than some of the more prevalent definitions of success.
