Daily Inspiration: Meet Brooke Fischer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Fischer.

Brooke, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Boulder, Colorado. I went to the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver for Graphic Design. After finishing at C.I.A. I moved to Los Angeles in my 20s and worked for two advertising agencies. These days I am a self-employed freelance graphic designer, fine art painter, women’s rights advocate, protector of bees and small insects, but my most important job is being the Mom of a precocious 9-year-old.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am so blessed and thank my lucky stars every day for all of the gifts that have come my way. I have worked with a lot of wonderful people and have a very loving and supportive family. My mother’s wise advice was to always have an “attitude of gratitude”. I try not to get bogged down in struggles; I just push through and try to appreciate all of the work that comes my way and I look forward to working with more people and creating more and more art.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am crazy about botanical paintings and use botanical themes in all of my artwork. My paintings also typically celebrate a single plant, insect or life cycle. I want the viewer to really see and appreciate these small but beautiful forces of nature and really examine the individual beauty of the microscopic world. I think that when we look closely at something and we can appreciate the details it opens up a whole new perspective.

I am also an unexpected political artist. I created Let Equality Bloom for the Women’s March in 2017. Let Equality Bloom is officially a historic document in the Library of Congress. For which I am truly honored. “She” has taken on a life of her own and traveled around the world with my message for equality and I am SO PROUD of that! We have much work to do in the fight for equality. I hope we soon finally see the ERA ratified in every state, for women to truly be equal this has to happen here in America. With the recent setbacks with Roe and Supreme Court, this election cycle could not be more critical and I would be remiss if I didn’t tell people how important it is to VOTE not just in this election but in every election. Your vote is your voice and your voice matters and everything politicians decide affects all of us. So PLEASE VOTE!

I am also always advocating for protecting honey bees and monarch butterflies and their declining populations due to climate change. As artists, we have the unique opportunity to help bring attention to these important causes. I also donate a lot of my time to create artwork and materials for our local schools and help with their events. I am happy to volunteer my time to help our wonderful local community and schools.

What’s next?
I will keep fighting for equality, humanity and the planet with my art. I hope to be an example to my daughter to always fight for what you believe in.
