Today, we’d like to introduce you to Stacy Yip.
Hi Stacy, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was a 24-hour caretaker for my 90-year-old grandmother when I was 24 years old. Watching her decline underscored the importance of health and fitness to the aging process. I decided to learn how to exercise properly, and I became a personal trainer and fitness instructor. I worked at a Women’s Gym in San Marino, CA for six years. I explored different techniques and created more effective programming that is catered to older women.
I started a Zoom online fitness business during the pandemic. I believe fitness classes and health coaching should be combined as 1 program to help women achieve their best health. My company has grown from 1 employee (me) to 6 employees. I plan to continue growing the business because I believe we can help a lot of women feel empowered and healthy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am currently pregnant with my first child and the morning sickness, vomiting, and constant fatigue has made it difficult to run my business. I have adjusted by setting more realistic goals, slowing down, and hiring employees to help. My clients and employees are very supportive as I’ve faced my ups and downs with pregnancy hormones and general discomfort. I am due in early December.
Learning to market my program and acquiring clients took a lot of trial and error, but I found a method that works for me. I am constantly reading books to conjure new ideas – I make it a goal every morning to read at least a couple of pages. The works of Jonah Berger and Daniel Pink have been especially influential in how I market my business to prospective clients.
As you know, we’re big fans of Yip Fitness. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
Health and fitness are a luxury, but I like the phrase: “Health is wealth.” No matter how wealthy you are, being healthy is precious and it takes good habits and hard work to achieve it.
I created a program that is affordable to anyone who wants to be healthy. There is a social aspect to the program where clients are together over Zoom doing group training – the ice breaker helps us connect on an emotional level, and the exercises help everyone get stronger. The one-on-one health meeting with a health coach once a week tailors the program to each person with personalized homework. I am always amazed at the results my clients get, because we take care of them physically and emotionally to help them achieve more with their health.
I’ve seen no other program that provides live classes, one-on-one health coaching, and group classes at the low price I am able to offer to my clients. I keep the prices low because I believe in helping as many people as I can.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Clients and friends recommend me to their friends and family because they are very moved by the passion and care we offer. I get many messages on our Instagram excited for our expanded class schedule, or they write us an amazing review on Google or Facebook. All this word of mouth and online support has helped my business so much.
