Rising Stars: Meet Susan Ashouri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susan Ashouri.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am the owner of SugarPartiesLA a party styling business that also offers handmade party decor. My business started slowly in the year 2016 and has flourished and currently running as of 2022. I started crafting and diving into the world of parties and design when I became a mother in 2014. It all started when I had the urge to want to style my own baby shower from my first pregnancy. Oh yes, I forgot to mention that I am a mom to 3 sweet boys named Tariq, Omar and Kareem.

I found inspiration from the world of Pinterest. At first, I didn’t think of it turning into an actual business but somehow that’s where my road lead me. While raising my boys from home and we spent ALOT of time at home because my kids were only 14 months apart so getting anything done felt like so much. I dove into party styling, content creation and started experimenting with digital designing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
SugarPartiesLA had lots of lessons, some big and some small. I think the biggest struggles were ones that I was actually facing with myself because I was trying to do all the things and it really became a lot for me to handle with being a full-time mom, working from home and growing and nurturing this new business and myself at the time.

There were lots of growing pains.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am a Realtor in Southern California (IG @LivinWithSusan) and also designing printable parties that you can find on my Instagram page @SugarPartiesLA or Etsy shop “ShopSugarPartiesLA”.

With the years I have spent growing and learning all that I have I know that no matter where my path continues to lead me that I will have skills that will always set me apart. We are each unique to our own styles, the way we carry and present ourselves and how we do things. I always trust and believe that what’s for me will be for me no matter what. Now that I am a Realtor I know the love for designing and styling may lead me into a path of that with homes. Possibly interior design, decorating Air Bnb’s or doing flips! I am excited for all that is coming.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories which might sound funny is when my mom would pick up my brother and I from school and surprise us and take us to play and eat at Chuck “e Cheese. I can’t even explain the joy and excitement it would bring to me. That feeling of excitement and filled with joy to play and have fun will never leave.
