Inspiring Conversations with Amir Marmar of JFDI Accountants

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Marmar.

Hi Amir, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started helping a friend with accounting services about 10 years ago after I left the corporate world. This friend later referred me to a few more friends and I quickly realized that I was in the early stages of building a company as opposed to just helping a friend. Shortly thereafter, I shifted my focus to perfecting my craft and building out my service offering.

As the years went by and referrals continued to come in on a regular basis, I really became more confident in the services I was providing and decided to start hiring employees to build out a team to support the Company’s growth. To date, JFDI still receives referrals on a regular basis and has grown primarily based on these referrals that come from trusted organizations such as the Big 4, respected VC’s, top Legal firms, etc.

In late 2017 I really got interested in crypto accounting since I felt that very few knew how to do it properly. It was at this point that I shifted the firm’s focus to specializing in this area and to accommodate the growing demand. So, what humbly started as a back-office solution for early-stage tech companies, today JFDI Accountants is a global leader in crypto Accounting and serves the biggest crypto companies in the world.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey is never a straight line. Early on when starting the company, I did not know how to grow. I decided to work hard, go above & beyond and care about people. It was that mentality that helped me and my firm gain respect and ultimately drive client referrals. Although this path of natural growth was a slower one than the company’s that do outbound campaigns, it is definitely a big part of our story as to how we have grown year over year for 10 consecutive years since inception.

The other challenge was building out a team which initially was something I was not good at. Over the years, I started to understand individuals better and outline core requirements that I wanted my team to have. First and foremost, I always looked at someone’s interpersonal traits ahead of their accounting talent. Hiring good people is something that is really important to me and some qualities that I really looked for were caring, comforting, giving, honest and loyal.

The last struggle was more around growing pains as we added team members and really needed to focus on their training since crypto accounting is extremely difficult and technical in nature.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
JFDI = Just F*@king Do It!

I wanted to differentiate ourselves from everyone else and our brand is the first place you will notice this. While most accounting firms are pretty conservative in nature, we are unique, techy and edgy. The JFDI is about us being more doers and less talkers as we fulfill our company’s mission of helping good people.

Our firm provides a full back-office suite of services to crypto companies that include bookkeeping, accounts payables, payroll, financial reporting and consulting.

What sets us apart is what I often refer to as PSP; People, Systems & Processes. I think our team is amazing, our proprietary software has been widely recognized by top peers in the space and our internal controls are top-notch.

I am most proud of the following:
1. Consistently delivering high-quality results to all of our clients.
2. Natural year over year growth since inception mainly through referrals.
3. Respected by top firms globally which include our clients, Big 4, VC’s, legal firms and other major public accounting firms.
4. Built life-long friendships as we are always relationship-driven.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I don’t have any as 100% of my time is dedicated to spending quality time with my wife & kids and growing the firm.
