Daily Inspiration: Meet Jen Dela Resma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Dela Resma.

Hi Jen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I feel like most photographers have the same origin story – gifted a camera when they were younger and started shooting everything and everyone. As interest in my work grew, so did the sense of imposter syndrome. Thankfully, my experience with the photography community has been nothing but wonderful. Everyone is so supportive and knowledgeable, ready to help one another in a pinch.

Now that I have joined the ranks of parenthood, I feel my work has shifted and I have been stretched in ways I never knew were possible. Capturing special and candid moments has always been a priority, but now it means something different as I watch my child grow and develop right before me. Rediscovering the world through their eyes has been such a gift, and I feel like I can’t capture enough of it. While I’ve chosen to reduce the amount of jobs I take on, it still brings me great joy to save these glimpses of time before it slips through my fingers.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be completely frank, financial challenges stood in the way for quite some time. My last laptop couldn’t run any of Adobe programs on it anymore and then completely died. To stay more relevant to the industry, I also had to upgrade my gear, and we all know that bodies and lenses are not cheap. I’m thankful to have stumbled upon some great resources to purchase my gear secondhand – another thing very dear to me (buying secondhand or thrifting to reduce waste)!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer! Editorial fashion has always been my main focus with portraits and weddings sprinkled throughout. Connecting and collaborating with other creatives is always exciting but between raising a family and my other job, it’s something I haven’t been able to do as much as before. Motherhood has definitely opened my eyes as I now have another way to connect with some of my clients – we can share in the joy and the struggles of being parents and raising our own little creatives.

What’s next?
Honestly, no big plans. Just taking it day by day and approaching each one as authentically as possible. Even if it means just getting out of bed.
