Today we’d like to introduce you to Beshoy Selim.
Hi Beshoy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started photography in 2014. So My cousin “peter Saad” came from Egypt to visit us. I went to see him. He was a photographer in Egypt and he brought his camera with him so when I visit him, I ask him to try his camera. When I hold the camera I felt something inside me, It’s hard to explain it. On the second day, I woke up at 6 am to go to BestBuy even though BestBuy opened at 10 am but I was extremely excited. So I bought my first camera Canon T3i and oh man, I was extremely happy and I never ever felt that way. So my Wife “Dalia Eskander” saw me excited, and she told me you should go to school to learn more about it. Then yes, I went to WVOC and start a photography 6-month course. I was going 5 days a week from 5 pm to 8 pm; than the end of the class my teacher came to me and he said “Beshoy, I have been a photographer for 35 years. I have never seen a photographer has talent like you, you should go study photography in Santa Monica college” when he told me that I got more and more excited. I went to Santa Monica College and start studying the Art of photography. I learned a lot and I got a chance to meet a lot of amazing photographers there. I remember I worked so hard and I was practicing a lot in my family. Even at work, I kept watching videos about photography. I was willing to do anything to learn more about photography and I was getting better every day. I remember the last exam was very hard. actually it was an empty room with a t-shirt, hat, pen, water, and paper. And you have one minute to take 1 creative shoot. So I create a very creative shot with my hard and water only. So the results shocked me. I got the best photographer in the class. I remember I cried a lot that day of happiness.
And from here, I start my photography business. I decided to be a wedding artist-photographer. When I began photography, I knew I wanted to become a photographer. But, I knew I did not want to become just a photographer, but a photographer that is an artist. Growing up, whether it be in Egypt or America, I saw lots of beautiful landscapes all over the world. With that said, I wanted to integrate the beautiful landscapes with beautiful couples to create an artistic canvas that embodied and accentuated the beauty of both.
So I start to create my social media and start telling everyone. So I start shooting a lot of people for free, just to get people to know me. So one day we went to Koren BBQ with my best friends. And that day was the worst day of my life. We were sitting and eating and having fun. My friends start making fun of my work and my style and laughing about my poses. That was really sad, especially coming from my closest friend. I didn’t say anything I was smiling and quiet. When we left the restaurant, I cried from my heart. So the second day, I decided to stop thinking about it and not worry about what people say and focus on myself. And be like target never look behind me. Since I decided to focus on myself only and start getting better and better and start moving forward. I start to get weddings and a lot of engagement pictures getting better every Year.
Now I am a multi-international award-winning top wedding photographer from Engma Magzine award-winning from wedding wire. My clients bring me from all over the world shooting celebrities.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I am an overall humble person. I never take anything for granted. I never changed no matter how much fame and money I received. I never stopped loving what I do. Not a wedding goes by where I feel like I am working. No, it was not easy. There were always challenges along the way. I’ve cried. I’ve had meltdowns. I have even deleted my Instagram because the closest people to me were mocking rather than being in support of my style. They did not believe in me. The way I overcame it is I tuned out anything negative criticism anyone had to say about my work. I had a horse’s field of vision and only accepted positive criticism and feedback. I started to focus on my dreams, goals, and myself.

Beshoy Selim Photography is a Los Angeles-based wedding photography that was started in 2014 by Beshoy Selim. My work is best known for its colorful, contemporary, cinematic style of portraiture. Our love for storytelling and wedding photography has allowed us to capture weddings all throughout the world. I have photographed weddings in more than a dozen States for stylish couples that want to remember their day as more than average.
My company grew to one of the best wedding photographers in Los Angeles. In the beginning, we created a style of photography that puts your story first and allows us to capture your environment, your love, your emotion, and the people you cherish on the most important day of your life. This isn’t marketing fluff; we know how important it is to make it when choosing your photographer, and we don’t take any of our clients for granted. Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What most makes me happy is when I Create a piece of art for my client and when I deliver it I see the happiest in their eyes.
What also makes me happy? Work so hard for my client and do more than my best to create stories and make sure I capture all moments to their special day.
Why? Because I love what I do. I am blessed and I never change no matter how much fame and money I receive. I never stopped loving what I do. Not a wedding goes by where I feel like I am working.
