Hi Hezi, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My history with firearms started during my time in the Israeli Defense Forces. I served in a special operations unit, where firearm proficiency was a must. I have shot hundreds of thousands of rounds in countless practice drills during my time in the service. The techniques I learned were based on pragmatic, reality-based scenarios and safety. If we fast forward ten years, I have now moved to Los Angeles and opened The Israeli Martial Arts Academy. At my dojo, I teach individuals of all ages how to defend themselves against violent attacks. This includes weapons disarms against a handgun in the adult classes. I saw the way that my students handled fake plastic firearms and could not imagine how they would handle real guns. I found it necessary to teach my students how to properly operate real firearms in the safest most effective way possible. Therefore, I started taking people out to the range. Today, my students practice how safely and effectively use a firearm during a real situation while under pressure. This authentic and practical training is designed to save lives and educate the public about firearms.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
California has some of the strictest firearm laws in the country. Finding ways to circumvent the bureaucratic hurdles have been the toughest obstacle. COVID also caused our business to suffer. However, our operations are back to normal!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
There will always be a need for Firearm classes as long as violence persists in our society. With the way our crime rate has dramatically deteriorated over the past several years, I surmise that our industry will continue to grow.
