Meet Michelle Farrell of I Ain’t Your Momma

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Farrell.

Michelle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m originally from Liverpool, England and now I’m a Brit living in LA. I came to the US in the late 80’s after bumming around Europe for a few years, USA was the next stop on my trip around the world. I stayed in a hostel in Florida and met a Dutch girl who said, “Why don’t you try Santa Monica, there are tons of British people there, it will be like home from home.” So after 3 days on a Greyhound bus with my sister and I ended up in Santa Monica.

I quickly got a job as a waitress just as a means to fund my next travels to Asia and Australia, I didn’t really like Santa Monica that much back then, the nightlife, fashion, and sense of humor were a lot to get used to compared to Europe. Lots of people told me that if I lasted six months in LA, I’d be in love with it and would never want to leave. So true, I settled here, and now I have two American children and feel more American than British.

Until 18 months ago, I worked for a major ecommerce brand working my way up the ranks from Web Producer, to Blogger and Social Media Manager, to SEO & Content Marketing Manager I got burned out working for Corporate American and dreaded big shopping holidays because working 60+ hours per week during Christmas, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day, Cyber Monday, Black Friday etc. was very stressful.

Now I work for myself as an SEO Consultant and WordPress web designer. The websites I design include SEO and my clients benefit from my vast knowledge of digital marketing, I love to mentor small local business owners and help their business thrive.

Has it been a smooth road?
Working for myself and always hustling and not knowing where my next paycheck is coming can be stressful, but I believe in myself and my skill set. I would prefer to work for myself for 60+ hours a week for less money than to work for Corporate America ever again.

Educating potential clients of my value and how I can grow their business can be challenging, there will always be clients that don’t understand how important it is to hire a professional for their business website. I help a lot of clients fix damage done by their neighbor/friend/nephew who built them a site cheaply/free, My word-of-mouth reputation for my services is growing, so I am attracting clients that understand what I bring to the table…

I am determined to stay the course through the ups and downs, my dream is to eventually have the freedom of being able to work from anywhere in the world that has good WIFI.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with I Ain’t Your Momma – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a one-man band offering the same service that a web design Agency would charge $10,000 for! My vast experience in online marketing and website building is unmatched by any other small web designer.

I am known for my work ethic, integrity and passion for all things SEO and web related.

I am the real deal and bring real value to my clients.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love LA weather, sunsets, hiking trails, beaches, mountains, happy hours, and never, ever does the view get old! I don’t like that LA is so spread out and the traffic, both keep me to the westside of town, I actually haven’t seen good friends in years because they live in the Valley!
