Community Highlights: Meet Alice Foy of The Digital Jane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alice Foy.

Hi Alice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my operations agency, The Digital Jane, in 2018, as a virtual assistant agency. Black women were notably the fastest-growing group of entrepreneurs, and my goal was to intentionally create a flexible support solution for us. Businesses owned by women of color are usually understaffed and lack the funding needed to grow and scale appropriately. Since starting in 2018, we have served dozens of service providers across the U.S. in various industries.

We got to this moment by never being afraid of doing the work, going above and beyond for our clients, and prioritizing healthy collaboration practices within our growing team.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building an agency has its challenges, every day is different.

1. Marketing is always a challenge, social media in particular is ALWAYS changing.
2. Keeping services updated and in alignment with what our ideal clients need.
3. Knowing when to hire and how to find the best fit for our team.
4. Finances! Bookkeeping, taxes, and funding for company improvements.

In those tough moments, we have to remind ourselves that we get to serve in the vision of other women and their dreams. It is an important role to have and we don’t take it lightly.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Established in 2018, The Digital Jane is a virtual operations consultancy and management agency that supports women-founders with done-for-you services. Our clients are service providers with growing teams who are seeking experienced support to streamline their systems and processes.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Network with intention, but don’t think of it as a transaction. People can feel that! Instead, make it a goal to build relationships, offer support to others when you can, and share resources. Pro tip: always follow up and follow through!
