Check Out J Chris Newberg’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to J Chris Newberg.

Hi Chris, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Born and raised in Detroit, MI where I studied music, comedy, and writing to prepare myself to move to Los Angeles where I quickly realized I had a lot more to learn.

After achieving big fish status in a small pond, I headed west to be the smallest swimmer in the largest entertainment ocean. I parlayed my comedy and writing chops into a Tonight Show appearance and many other TV shows for stand-up where I fell in love with television production.

I decided to take every gig possible in TV so I could learn as much as I could to eventually create and run my own shows.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is more difficult than staying the course, but for me, it came down to being able to convince myself I could do it. I knew if I fooled myself, I could fool the world.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a writer-producer currently for game shows and competitive reality. I work mostly as a host producer. If I’m known for anything it would be my ability to write something funny quickly.

I’m most proud of leaving a successful stable career in Michigan to head west and start from scratch at 34. I struggled mightily, but stayed the course and couldn’t be more proud.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the food and the mixture of cultures, the people are great and even though it’s a lot of folks out here on their own trying to win, there is a cool sense of community.

I am not a fan of the traffic that is only going where I’m going whenever I’m late.
