Ming, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We never thought Alamode Fashion Jewelry was going to become the company it is today. 30 years ago, our family started a small swap meet business to make ends meet.
At the time, we sold a variety of products, including jewelry that we imported from Taiwan. Over time, we built up a small customer base who came out to the swap meet each week to shop our jewelry products. Realizing that there was potential in this industry, we made the decision to start Alamode Fashion Jewelry and to begin scaling the business. As our business model changed, we began taking steps to market our company, participating in exhibitions and tradeshows across the country. Slowly and steadily, we began to grow our customer base, many of which are still working with us today.
As the business matured, we decided to launch our own jewelry line in the early 90’s – The TSAO Collection. Made with real 925 sterling silver, a pristine micro-pave setting and manufactured with a high level of detail, the TSAO Collection became our signature line. In the late 90’s, our family launched AlamodeOnline.com, becoming one of the first e-commerce websites in the jewelry industry. The rest is history.
Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a new business venture is never an easy or smooth process. We had our share of ups and downs. When we first began, one of the biggest challenges was maintaining a consistent level of quality and execution. Given that resources were tight, we were unable to place large scale orders and instead forced us to place small batch orders every few months. The product, as you can imagine, varied quite a bit from one batch to another.
Another challenge has been the changing retail and wholesale landscape. As the traditional business models (trade shows, mail order catalogs, etc.) began to give way to new methods, we had to change our business model and adjust our perspectives. Either we adapted and welcomed the changes or we fell behind. Fortunately, we were able to get ahead of the web revolution with the launch of AlamodeOnline, which now represents 95% of our business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Alamode Fashion Jewelry – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Alamode Fashion Jewelry uses the jewelry-grade and eco-friendly TK316 stainless steel jewelry as a trademark compared to other normal stainless steel jewelry on the market.
And then we noticed that personalization is currently a big trend in the industry with many of our competitors offering solutions to meet that need. In response, we launched DNAlamode, which is a custom made service for our clients to customize their own creations utilizing our full-scale design services, which set us apart from others in the B2B/Wholesale fashion jewelry market.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like about Garden Grove is the location. It is a short drive away from both the beach and the mountains. What I dislike about Garden Grove is inconvenient if you compare with the life of the big city like New York. No metro. You have to drive everywhere and it gets pretty dull once the sun sets here.
