Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Williams.
Benjamin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career as a dancer in South Africa. I competed in international competitions for years, and by the time I graduated high school, I had a lot of performance experience under my belt. I wanted to go to college and get a degree. I had to choose between going into something like engineering or acting. Thankfully my parents supported either choice, and I chose what makes me happier. Cut to three years later and I’ve graduated from the New York Film Academy LA with my BFA in Acting for Film. I acted in at least 36 short films during my studies. Now that I’ve graduated, I’m working towards my O1 visa.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My biggest challenge is rest. It always has been. I’m ambitious and want so much from my life that it’s easy for me to take on too much at once. Burnouts are a serious momentum-killer, so managing my rest and recovery while streamlining my life with principles of essentialism has been my biggest challenge.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do many things. I act, voice-act, dance, and model. I’m most proud of the content that I have created from scratch, such as my thesis film “The Decider”. I enjoy acting in other people’s projects, but there’s nothing like conceptualizing, shooting, and releasing your own project.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I have pet worms. Well, they’re not pets. I have a 2-tier worm bin that I use for vermicomposting food scraps. It’s just my small contribution to decreasing the amount of food waste in landfills while making my own rich compost for my plants.
