Meet Ben Wynkoop of Ben Wynkoop Marketing in Huntington Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Wynkoop.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I stumbled into digital marketing by accident. In 2006, I began selling fitness supplements out of my wall locker while serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Sales quickly grew to several thousand dollars a month and I decided to take the operation online. At the time, I knew nothing about running an eCommerce website.

Somewhere along the process of figuring out how to drive traffic I discovered the “magical” world of search engine optimization (SEO) to rank websites in major search engines such as Google. Ultimately trying to build the world’s “greatest” online store while using my barracks room as a warehouse turned out to be a failure, but began my journey of optimizing websites.

During later business ventures, I refined my skills to a point where I was working full-time for digital marketing agencies. The road to learning SEO was long, costly, and the truth is, I had almost quit internet marketing altogether. It took countless hours and thousands of dollars before I finally gained a comprehensive understanding of the art and science of optimizing websites to be both appealing to visitors and rank at the top of search engines.

With Ben Wynkoop Marketing I offer pay-per-click advertising management and SEO for local businesses.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road. I have sent over $30,000 on multiple failed ventures and thousands of hours learning by trial and error before understanding how to consistently get results. The biggest struggle wasn’t necessarily learning the technical site of internet marketing, but rather where to focus my efforts. For example, it took a while for me to understand the value of focusing on digital marketing for specific industries versus working with random clients, so I learn what works in specific niches.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ben Wynkoop Marketing – what should we know?
Ben Wynkoop marketing offers digital marketing for local businesses by driving traffic to client’s website through 2 main channels: pay-per-click advertising and search engine optimization. What set’s me apart is my no-nonsense, return-on-investment-focused approach. This involves using PPC to almost immediately bring in traffic to earn clients’ trust and quick revenue to grow their marketing budget to pay for SEO, which aims to capture a much larger segment of the market. Secondly, I prove results by setting up a client’s ad campaigns to track the cost per acquisition down to the penny, so clients have necessary information to calculate ROI. Basically, I encourage scrutiny… give me just 2 months to prove myself.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have learned from several amazing mentors at UCLA’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans and my partner Daniel Beck, CPA who handles the finances and account management.
