Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina R. Farrar.
Hi Gina R., so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a midlife podcaster, coach and artist. I’m on a mission to help women navigate the challenges and changes of midlife but also to live a vibrant, rocking second half of life. When I hit 50, I knew that I wanted to have to real conversations with real women about all things midlife so I started a podcast called Feminine Roadmap on January 1st, 2018. The podcast was a result of what I found when I searched online for midlife… I pretty much got menopause and midlife crisis. I knew that midlife was so much more than that so that I wanted to change the conversation from those negative perceptions to empowerment. In March of 2019, I was fortunate to be featured in Women’s Day magazine highlighting Feminine Roadmap as a podcast for people who liked Oprah and Dr. Phil. What a thrill and an honor to have my podcast put in the same league as them. That was a turning point for my podcast, I began to get opportunities to have conversations with so many different guests on topics of all kinds. Podcasting has allowed me to touch many people around the world with conversations full of strategies and resources to empower women in midlife to live with purpose, intention and excitement. Honestly when I started, I had zero technical knowledge of what I was doing and here I am in my 5th year with over 260 episodes under my belt. It’s really just been an amazing journey!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the greatest challenges for me was learning all of the technical things it took to podcast from the terms to the equipment to the recording and editing. All of it was brand new to me and a bit overwhelming. I basically learned online how to do it all and have done every part of technical side of podcasting by myself from the beginning. The first nine months, I had a friend who talked with me on the show each week to help me show up. Not long before she left, I lost everything on my computer to malware including all of my podcast episodes and data. That setback was devastating, I wasn’t able to recover any of it but had to start fresh. Once my friend stepped away from the show, I had to figure out what it was going to look like to be a solo podcaster and how to keep it interesting. That shift lead me to seek out more guests for the show so I could tap into other people’s knowledge. While the journey has been incredibly rewarding, I wouldn’t say that it has been smooth because well… technology.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I absolutely love being creative in every area of my life, not only as an artist through painting but in creating content for women in midlife through my podcast, online course and coaching programs. My superpower is being able to think creatively and find solutions. Through my coaching program, I help women tap into their full potential and live more fully into their purpose. My podcast Feminine Roadmap is a valuable resource to empower and encourage women in midlife. What sets me apart from others is me, the way I show up in the world, the way I create a space for women that gives them a place to thrive. As a coach, I help women identify where they are stuck. I am able to listen and help clarify what is being said so solutions are found. As a course creator, I am able to communicate concepts in a clear and practical way so that real change can take place. I get so energized by helping women learn to paint, write their next chapter in life or find their breakthrough.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The greatest piece of advice I would give anyone is to trust the process and believe in your ability to figure things out. Start, do it messy and fix it as you go. Don’t wait until it’s perfect because you’ll never start if you do.
