

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edwin Jimenez and Jose Perez.
Edwin and Jose, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started in an annual dinner church event at our congregation Crossroads Church.
The church was desperately looking for someone who could cater the event in a thin line budget and time. Jose was generous enough to offer himself to cater the event, he offered to service our congregation at no labor cost. Jose’s only request was to have a helper to assist him in the kitchen, that’s when I came in to volunteer. Jose and I completely bonded, we both have restaurant experience and we both have a fascination in culinary art. As Jose and I continued serving our congregation with their catering events at no labor cost my relationship with Jose grew deeper and we noticed we both had the same work ethics which are honesty and integrity.
Our enthusiasm and dedication made all the church events to become a complete success.
We always had guests asking us for Business cards and asked if we catered for events. We would always reply” At this time we solely volunteer for our congregation by catering to serve our brothers and sisters to utilize our gifting.” Then they would always strongly suggest we should start our own catering business. The experience and pleasure of seeing how our guests enjoyed themselves and how they would complement the extraordinary food and service made us feel as a perfect team. We had all the guests amazed of the delicious taste of our cuisine.
As our relationship and trust grew and I got to know Jose deeper I know he was a perfect epitome of a hardworking man. At the age of 17 Jose came from Mexico to the United States to live the American Dream he started working for a Greek fine dining restaurant as a busboy and he quickly became motivated to work in the kitchen. Within the 6 month period as a busboy the managers promoted him as a cook and within a year his talent in the kitchen was recognized and was offered to be train with the main chef. In a period of 6 months training his discipline and passion earned him his Chef title position which allowed him to grow in the culinary arts. Throughout his 22 years of carrier as a chef he has mastered in Greek, American, BBQ, European, Mediterranean, Italian, Asian, Mexican, and Chinese cuisine. Jose’s dream has always been to become and entrepreneur where he can represent his fine culinary arts with his inspiring fusion cooking.
As our relationship and our trust grew and I got to know of his dream we encouraged each other to make this happen. As we were looking for a business name in one of our bible study reunion our group who had been our guests at all of the church catering events suggested it had to be a name that represented luxury because that’s how they feel when they taste our food and experience our service and passion. We immediately knew and agreed that Deluxe Catering would suite us perfectly. We then started advertising our business with all our church guests, our local community and social media. We are so excited and motivated with our small business we have faith that our local community will continue to support us.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning a business has been more challenging than we thought. As our business grows we have encountered many challenges along the way in the administration, accounting, marketing and networking process. In our initiation process it felt over whelming and frustrating when we had to learn how to manage all areas so our business can stand competent. We know it has all been worth it because we have been able to gain knowledge in important areas of a business operations, but most important we continue doing what we love by providing our customers with extraordinary customer service and our exquisite inspiring unique fusion cuisine

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The catering segment of the hospitality industry continues to grow every year. During the mid-2000s, catering was actually the fastest-growing sector of the food service industry. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics (a division of the U.S. Department of Labor), food preparation careers will be in demand through 2020.
Institutional catering—to universities, hospitals, nursing homes, and business campuses—is on the upswing. Social catering to civic groups, charities, corporations, businesses, and individuals is the fastest-growing segment, according to the Restaurant Industry Forecast 2000, prepared by the National Restaurant Association.
