Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher J. Rich.
Hi Christopher, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I would watch music videos and wonder how the women would have different hairstyles in each different scene. I was about 14 or 15 when I learned what a lace wig was. Ever since then, I was fascinated and wanted to know more. I’ve always wanted to attend hair school, But instead, I went to school for performing arts. I graduated college in 2018, and that’s when I realized I didn’t want to do Performing Arts. Six months later, I enrolled into cosmetology school, took a class on how to properly apply lace front wigs (that I won for free), and ever since I never gave up on perfecting my craft.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It wasn’t a smooth road, but if I had to do it all over again, I would. My work schedule would always conflict with my school schedule, and most days when I felt like school and hair was more important, I would call out of work. I also learned that knowing more than one hairstyle/service will gain you more clientele. When I first started doing hair, I only knew about natural hair and wigs. Sometimes people would look at me crazy when I would tell them a price, and It wasn’t even a hundred dollars at the start of my journey
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m A hairstylist who specializes In lace front wigs and extensions. I’m proud to be doing something I love and making other people who are experiencing hair loss or just want a different look feel beautiful.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If you want to be a full-time stylist, go to school and get educated so you have the knowledge and license to back up your work. There’s no such thing as I learned enough, continue to take more hair classes… make sure you continue to practice in whatever it is you decide to do
