Life & Work with Xhuljo Zere

Today we’d like to introduce you to Xhuljo Zere.

Hi Xhuljo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a singer/songwriter originally from Albania living in sunny Los Angeles. I grew up touring Albania at eight years old, singing traditional folk songs that influence my songwriting to this day. After moving to the United States at 11 years old, I started writing my own music and developing my sound. Exploring different writing styles that range from Pop, R&B, Alternative, and Folk.

I later attended university for Musical Theatre, the training I received helped me develop myself even more as an artist and performer and truly helped me find my sound. Since then, I’ve been releasing music as an independent artist and loving every minute of it. Music is my therapy it’s a piece of my heart and I’m ecstatic to be sharing my story with many more projects to come this year that really showcase my talent and show my vulnerability.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, there has been many challenges some of which I am facing right now. I grew up in a culture of constant people-pleasing, I was taught to hide my flaws because they made me weak. I learned to break away from all these traits and truly find who Xhuljo really is, and I still have to fight to this day just to be authentically me. It’s been an amazing journey of self-discovery and a hard one since some people closest to me chose not to accept my reality. I learned to be comfortable and happy in my skin, to choose me, to let it all out instead of controlling how people see me and most importantly, I learned how to let go of people that no longer served me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a singer/songwriter, actor and dancer, I would definitely call myself a well-rounded performer. I love writing lyrics, creating melodies and living my truth through music. I am very proud of myself for working hard everyday hustling to fund my career cause making music isn’t cheap. I’m working a 9 to 5 job while creating projects, dancing and constantly practicing my craft to get stronger. Last year I performed in a huge showcase in Albania with my song “Waiting for me” (available on all streaming platforms) and It was an amazing experience, I learned a lot about myself and I had so much fun performing and I am blessed to have worked with some other amazing artists. Since then, I released a single all in Albanian called “Karma” and now working on a new single coming out early February.

What makes you happy?
A lot of things make me happy and bring me joy, I would definitely say my family and friends make me the happiest I know that I can rely on them and they’ll always have my back, they’re my biggest supporters and it means the world to have them by my side. Other things that bring me joy is writing, yoga, rollerblading and discovery. I love discovering new things about myself, new places, discovering more about the people surrounding me, and constantly learning. Yoga and rollerblading are two activities that bring major happiness in my life, every time I go out and do these things, I just feel free without a care in the world, just present in that moment no worries or troubles just peace.
