Today we’d like to introduce you to Mira Kamis.
Hi Mira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Czech Republic and always wanted to become a professional soccer player like my dad. When I knew it wasn’t an opportunity I could pursue, I decided to explore other interests. I went on to initially study finance and then changed my major to nutrition as it closely aligned with my interest at that time. After graduating college, I realized there weren’t too many educational opportunities to advance in this field. I took a leap of faith and used my entire savings to move to the United States. That’s where I found my love for cars and turned my hobby into a profession.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, and there were a lot of obstacles I had to overcome. But I sort of enjoyed it. When I came to Los Angeles, I barely spoke English. I always chose to live with English speaking roommates so I could learn the language quicker. I spent all my work hours working on cars and when I didn’t have any cars to work on, I practiced fixing dents on car panels from junkyards. On weekdays after work, I would also attend school. I was taking evening classes and typically got home around midnight. My entire Saturdays were spent at work, but I always reserved my Sundays to play soccer. This was my schedule for two years and it took a lot of perseverance, but it was worth it. I felt ready to move on to my next journey.
For the second time in my life, I used my entire savings to purchase tools and equipment to start my own Paintless Dent Removal company, DENTLEZ. I risked it all. Thinking about it now, it was a pretty reckless move, but it worked out in my favor. With zero dollars in my bank account and not knowing how I’ll pay for next month’s rent, it motivated me to work that much harder.
