Today we’d like to introduce you to Claudia Contreras.
Hi Claudia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my photography Journey in August 2020. Yes! The year of the pandemic. I had a basic camera years back that my husband got me to capture our son and family gatherings. Never did it cross my mind that I could do this professionally. I used this camera for years during parties, until the day my husband yet again upgraded my camera and that’s when I went all in. I started asking friends and families to be my models. But during this time, I also met the Bautista’s(wedding photographers) that really helped me get the guts to get out there. Soon I was booking clients and I haven’t stopped since. It’s something that not only is my full-time job, but I believe it’s something I was meant to do. I love every single part of this craft and I can’t wait to see what 2022 has in store for me.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing new is ever a smooth ride. But I think as an artist, you tend to be your biggest critic. All I can really say is that this community of photographers is amazing and each day, someone new would hype me and my struggles then didn’t seem as struggles but a learning process.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a self-taught family photographer. I would love to one day be a full on wedding photographer. I’m proud of being where I am now and how hard I’ve worked to be here. It hasn’t been easy. And I have so much more room for growth and improving my craft and to be honest, I can’t wait for all of that. A lot of people including myself thought that a photographer just clicks a button, but oh man is it way more than just that.
How do you think about luck?
I think I’ve been incredibly blessed and lucky to have some amazing people in my corner pushing me to succeed. Starting with my husband. My dear friend KAT who’s really been the one to promote me with her family and friends. Also, the amazing community of photographers that I’ve met that are always so willing to answer my questions and concerns.
