Today we’d like to introduce you to $olo.
Hi $olo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I got to where I am today through a strong and single mother who kept me away from all the b.s. that was going on around me. Music was solace and a place of refuge when things weren’t going well at home. I wasn’t allowed to listen to secular music, so I would listen to Christian rap and shit like The Carpenters growing up. That was until I got a little older and ventured out. My cousin put me in front of Garageband when I was 13 and I couldn’t get away from that nagging dream.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Hell Nah. Biggie said it’s an Everyday Struggle and he wasn’t lying. Poverty, depression, feeling lonely, violence, and toxicity around me were all challenges. Then those things started to turn into nuanced problems. Beefing with my mom about lifestyle choices, trying to discover your purpose even when it goes against everything you were taught, and feeling ostracized are what those things developed into. But, making music gives me an outlet to let all that out and hopefully creates comfort for others going through similar shit.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist and I specialize in hip-hop. People really rock with my wordplay and whenever I’m just popping my shit on a track. What I like to employ is a sense of vulnerability too so people can resonate with the music and feel tethered to me as an artist, I want people to know me through my music.
I’m most proud of taking this seriously. I was always told I had talent relating to my writing, I just had to make that transition. Ever since I’ve been consistent doors keep opening up. Opportunity rewards preparation.
What sets me apart from others is the love and dedication I have for my music. Not saying other people don’t care about their craft but in this day and age, I feel like niggas just make songs hoping to blow. Every song is one of my children, and I think that care and consideration can be heard and taken from my music.
What’s next?
I plan on moving out of Florida and do more groundwork in other cities to organically build my fanbase. Also, of course, dropping music. I’m dropping a project on Dec. 17th, called ‘How Does That Make You Feel?’ that I feel will take my music career to the next level. Oh, I’m about to graduate college, too lol.
