Today we’d like to introduce you to Anisha Shorter.
Hi Anisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been event coordinating since high school as an ASB member and Class President. However, the idea to make it a career came into my heart after the first time I watched The Wedding Planner starring Jennifer Lopez back in 2007. Lol, true story! I completed a wedding planning course, got a business license, and shortly after, I was hired as In-House Event Coordinator at The Sycamore Plaza in Lakewood, CA. There were no resources for new entrepreneurs in 2007 like there are now to help my business stay afloat. So I had to shift my focus for a while. Unsure if I could be successful as an entrepreneur at the age of 21, I then took a long break to acquire multiple medical degrees and licenses. Furthermore, prior to COVID19, I introduced the Champagne Wall to the Los Angeles area. This new and exciting rental became a party must have and lead me into running a full on Event Planning company again. Since then, I have coordinated events for celebrities, non-profit events, concerts, weddings, etc. It has been an exciting last few years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building this event planning business has definitely been a process. Making sure all my business paperwork is always up to date, branding/marketing the business, finding and continually moving into larger storage spaces for my rentals as I grow, not to mention providing a full on iconic experience for each client I work with. The road has not been the easiest but definitely rewarding.
We’ve been impressed with B•Iconical Event Planning, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The definition of my business name is defined as “To Be Incredibly Successful and Influential” and I add in there ‘pertaining to your event’. That is my goal for each event I produce. I stay on top of event trends and I also like to create event trends. Each client that comes to me for my services will always get fresh ideas on decor, design, even entertainment. My creative mind is endless so I truly enjoy working with clients that are open to it. I also specialize in “Day of” coordinating, vendor referrals, event rentals, lifestyle planning, Air BnB super hosting, concierge services, creative directing, etc. And most recently, I have opened an Amazon storefront that shares today’s trendiest party essentials as well as the common must-haves. Definitely recommend checking that out.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was having every birthday party at the late Skate Depot in Cerritos, CA. I think I had every party there up until I was about 12 years old. Lol skating with friends and cousins. Were the best times!
