Today we’d like to introduce you to Macye Wysner.
Hi Macye, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
We would have to start like any story the moment the flame was ignited in a small town in rural Alabama. I might have to contribute my creativity and imagination to the boredom of growing up in a small, slow town where I had to look inward for entertainment. Most of my time was spent creating characters, playing dress-up, taking dresses apart and putting them back together. I remember when I was seven, there was one dress that started it all – a pink sequin gown with a silver sequin star right in the middle. As trivial as it may sound, this was the spark that started my love for fashion. I wore this dress and created my own world. In high school, my bestfriend and I stumbled upon a run down “vintage” shop after school. We walked through the door and there was a sea of white and yellow fading wedding gowns. I’m pretty sure we stayed until it closed trying on the gowns thinking that we just hit the jackpot. Years later, I studied fashion design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and found a part-time position taking styling appointments at Ceremony Boston – a local bridal boutique. It all started to click, bridal was a place I could create gowns that would help curate a sacred and emotional experience – recreating that feeling of being transported by a dress. From then on creating CINQ was in the back of my mind. I moved to NYC then LA and worked in several facets of the industry – styling, bridal design, ready-to-wear, etc. moonlighting my own projects until I was finally ready to launch. In a terrifying leap, I quit my job and put all of my focus and energy into CINQ.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With any passion worth doing you are going to face some giants, especially ones that come out of nowhere. I started dreaming up CINQ before the pandemic began. When the lockdown came in March, I decided to hunker down with all my creative energy and get to work. Not knowing when or how we would come out of the pandemic – and how the wedding industry would be affected – while pouring all of my savings into my project was terrifying. I would not have made it without the people that love and support me pushing me to continue to create.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
CINQ was started because I wanted to make gowns that tell a story – with nods to historic patterns or styles – underlined with light, ethereal fabrics. My designs try to exude a nostalgic presence with modern detailing. It’s all in the details. One thing that is a critical part of my process is connecting with the brides – I take all my own appointments and give attention to every detail with how the gowns are uniquely crafted to every bride and every body type.
