Meet Sandra Villacis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Villacis.

Hi Sandra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a girl from the east side of Estonia. Basically grew up in a forest but by the age of seven, my mom moved us to the capital Tallinn. We had really no money in the family and my mom was by herself at the time raising two kids. So I think it’s pretty fair to say I come from humble beginnings. By the age of 14, I had only decided that I wanted to move to USA to become a professional dancer. I had seen wade Robson on MTV and some other dance movies like you got served. So for me it was no brainer that I wanted to live in LA. Coming from a lifestyle that meant having just break and ketchup for dinner I didn’t really have the means to move to Los Angeles so looking back, I really respect anyone who have moved from nowhere to Los Angeles and hustled their way through to really be able to live their dreams. At that time, it was impossible for me. I didn’t have money, I couldn’t work since I was under 16 and I didn’t have an invitation from someone in America for a visa. By the time I has 16-17 the laws had changed and anyone could apply and I was able to have three jobs aside of school to save enough money to go to NYC. Tickets to NYC were cheaper at the time then to LA. It took me couple of trips back and forward until I was 19 and my dream finally came true and I was able to fly out to LA. The same year I had the full American dream come true. I was able to meet my heroes from You got served the movie and works with a couple of major artists as a dancer. I knew I was meant to live in Los Angeles so at the age of 22, I made up my mind and permanently moved to the city of angels. Since then established my career as a dancer and finally started dabbling in music. I realized that music was my calling as of now and I’ve been going at it ever since.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth roads are boring. I like the rollercoaster mud roads that take you up and down. I’ve slept on the floor, survived on coffee and seen all kinds of weird things. At the same time skinny-dipped in luxury mansions with my best friends while drinking expensive roses that in no means necessary can appreciate.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist and I love to create records. Everything around recording I absolutely adore. I like the engineering, the vocal producing the writing the beat making. I treat music like a puzzle that starts off as a melody on a beat and I build everything else around it. I’m probably the most known for my record “Rocketship” – I wrote that to show my respect towards Charlie rocket and his movement. The winnings streak – it’s all about noticing the positive things in your day and finding silver linings. With that, you create a powerful wave of attraction. Your future starts now- the way you spend your, now you will create more of in the future.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the feeling of Los Angeles. The opportunity it provides, the people it keeps. I don’t like the standards it has put on people. Sometimes it feels like you need to be someone else to fit in or to match the standards. Even tho it’s not true at all. It’s the perception. Hope it starts shifting in my city being real and not perfect is the new perfect. Flaws are appreciated since everyone is already so perfect and looks and acts the same. Difference is the breath of fresh air.
