Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Pauley.
Jonathan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
During the late 80s and early 90s I was racing triathlons, marathons and other running events, as well as had a career in private training for Sports Club LA. I decided to pursue a master’s degree in Sports Management from University of San Francisco. As part of those studies, I had an internship with an event management company that produced running and triathlon events. I found my passion for sports merge with a gift for event management. I took something I truly loved and blended it with my education to create Renegade Racing.
Has it been a smooth road?
The number of events we managed grew quickly from three in the first year to about 40 annually currently. Along the way, not every event survived. When we started, there were not as many events. Today, the marketplace is quite full of traditional running and triathlon events, as well as more mud runs, color runs and other themed events. The trick has been to keep our events fresh in this ever-changing themed-event environment.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Renegade Racing produces running, triathlon, bike tour and adventure sporting events throughout California. Based in Orange County, Renegade Racing has a platinum reputation as an event management company. Producing our own and client-owned events, we work with nonprofits to create family-friendly, fun, safe events that help bring attention and fundraising to worthy causes.
We are proud to create experiences that change people’s lives. All participants have a story to tell and most of those stories don’t include winning the race. People participate for a variety of reasons, including raising money for a cause, in memory of a loved one, to commemorate a milestone, to challenge their own sense of worth, and to accomplish goals. You never know all the stories from all the participants who toe the line.
What sets us is apart is the team we have. We are a family-owned business that understands the needs of our non-profits and the experiences that our participants want to have. We are like family to our clients and our participants. We have fostered relationships that transcend a typical business-to-business or business-to-consumer relationship. Our trademark is our flexibility and creativity to solve problems to produce the highest quality events.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
This is a great place for our company – the weather is fabulous and the people who live in Southern California lead a healthy lifestyle that supports this kind of business. I would recommend not being overwhelmed with how many obstacles you have to produce an event – sometimes you have to be audacious.
